Nancy P. Pittman, formerly of Island Press, and Wes Jackson read and sorted through 52 issues of an old quarterly conservation publication called “The Land”, which had been published from 1941 until 1954, the result being From The Land. Putting together this anthology had become a labor of love for them, so that we all may have a chance “to sample some of the best writing to come out of this most tragic era in the history of American agriculture.”
