Mit dem Werk „Du contract social ou du principes du droit politique“ entwickelte Rousseau eine auf der Vertragstheorie basierende Staatsphilosophie, welche für die Französische Revolution, die Demokratie, wie auch für das Denken anderer Philosophen von grosser Bedeutung war. Rousseau war keineswegs nur ein Staatstheoretiker. Grossen Einfluss auf die Pädagogik hatte der Erziehungsroman „Émile ou de l’éducation“. Darin forderte Rousseau die Anlagen und Fähigkeiten in den verschiedenen Altersphasen der Kindheit zu wecken und entwickeln zu lassen.
Jean-Jacques Rousseau was one of the most important political philosophers of the Enlightenment. With the work “Du contract social ou du principes du droit politique“ he developed a state philosophy which is based on the contract theory. The work was of great importance for the French Revolution, the democracy and the thinking of other philosophers. Rousseau was not only a state theoretician. The educating novel „Émile ou l’éducation” had large influence on the education. There in Rousseau demanded to wake and develope the talents and abilities in the different age phases of childhood.
