When the victim is discovered, the shock to the local sheriff, George Kaughman, is overwhelming, as he was his best friend. Aside from his feelings for Two Shoes, he needs to find the one who killed his Native American friend. The search seems to be a roller coaster of clues and dead ends, until the end when he discovers shocking evidence that leads the reader to a surprise ending.
