Globally, only 1% of total water resource is available as freshwater. Our usable water resources are likely to be exhausted within a century because of increasing world population and increasing water pollution. A knowledge of water pollution is essential for everybody: The covering fundamental concepts of water pollution is not available.Water pollution is presently being taught in all universities and educational institutes at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The author thoroughly explores the important concepts of water pollution such as general aspects of water pollution, toxicology of major water pollutants, chemical speciation and its importance, water-quality parameters and standards, methodology of sampling of water and wastewater, methodology of water and wastewater analysis. The last chapter discusses the principles and methods of wastewater treatment. All of these topics have been discussed in a simple and lucid way.
