One of the battles of the Hundred Years War took place on Friday, October 25, 1415, between a French army and an invading English army retreating to Calais. It gained literary fame because of a play by William Shakespeare. Analyzing the battle of Azincourt we can prove, among other factors, that even if the French had decided on the attack, it should not have been like a breakthrough because of the English provocation, they should have followed the original battle plan adapted to the circumstances. – mainly by the narrowing of the English position between two forests. Thus, prior to any offensive maneuver, they might have tried to employ their siege artillery, cited by various authors as trebuchets and bombards. Then they could explore a combination of front and rear attacks – as in fact, in an uncoordinated manner, occurred at the end of the battle. And under no circumstances could they have relegated or dismissed the fire support of their important force of crossbowmen.
