South of Charleston: The Journey examined some of the residual effects, which continue to define how black Americans are looked at and how they try to integrate their views of society, the way they live life in a world, which has rejected them at times because of their skin color.
This is a look at one man’s journey and how his story is a small part of the bigger picture that is seldom written about or heard of.
The story is about common lives that are not so common to those who live it. The hope is that my story will open the minds of its readers and bring them closer to some of the daily reality of people of color.

Each step of success has never meant arrival for Charles Mc Pherson. Growing up in the rural south of Hickory Hill, South Carolina, among the suppression of the 1960s, he set his vision on a place far beyond his environment. The author, husband, and father of two now lives and writes in Jackson, New Jersey, where his career as a computer engineer and financial advisor pauses to write about a place he has come to appreciate, a place he willingly thought he had left behind, a special place where family and community build strong character, untiring work ethic, and determination.
After spending many years of his life away from South Carolina, he found himself constantly reaching back to his childhood, his family, and the special place where he has many fond memories.
In South of Charleston: The Journey, Charles writes the compelling story of the lessons that were taught to him by his parents and the life-changing experiences of
growing up in the South. The journey would not be complete if he did not include his personal views and experiences that would become his destiny over the past five decades of his life.
