Collected Correspondence of Qian Sanqiang contains nearly 300 letters related to Qian Sanqiang, most of which are first published. Many of these letters are witnesses to the development of Chinese science and technology, and they are of great historical value.Qian Sanqiang (1913-1992), whose original name is Qian Bingqiong, was born in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province. He graduated from the Physics Department of Tsinghua University and Curie Laboratory of Paris University successively. He is the founder of China’s atomic energy industry, a leading figure of "two bombs and one satellite", and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He had a rich life experience, witnessed many important scientific, political and social events, and was also at some crucial historical junctions.Qian Sanqiang’s grandfather, Qian Zhenchang, was a Jinshi of Tongzhi period in the Qing Dynasty and once taught Cai Yuanpei at Longshan Academy in Shaoxing. His father, Qian Xuantong, was a pioneer of the May Fourth New Culture Movement. Ge Nengquan, the editor of this book, had been Qian Sanqiang’s secretary for a long time. He studied the history of science and technology and scientific figures in his spare time and had contacts with many older scientists. He is also a teacher and friend of them. Over the years, the editor has been working hard to search for Qian Sanqiang’s correspondence, and has received strong support from Mr. Qian’s family and many friends. Finally, this correspondence collection with considerable literature value has been compiled. In order to enable readers to have a deeper understanding of the works, the editor not only made supplementary explanations to the writing background of the letters and the characters in the letters, but also compiled a special index of more than 500 former scholars and contemporary talents mentioned in the letters at the end of the text.
