Bert Peeters is Associate Professor of French at Macquarie University, Sydney. His main research interests are in the areas of French linguistics, intercultural communication, and language and cultural values. He is currently working on a monograph dealing with French language and cultural values. Kerry Mullan is Senior Lecturer and coordinator of French Studies at RMIT University, Melbourne. Her main research interests include pragmatics, cross-cultural communication, applied linguistics, discourse analysis and the interactional styles of French and Australian English speakers. Christine Béal is Professor in Linguistics and Communication at the Université Paul Valéry Montpellier 3, France. Her main research interests are discourse analysis, conversational analysis, cross-cultural pragmatics, cultural values, politeness rituals and everyday interactions in French and English.
