The plot revolves round Mary Lennox, a young girl who has been deprived of affection throughout her life. Upon arriving at her uncle’s house and learning about a garden that has been locked up and neglected for ten years, she begins to grow curious to find this hidden garden and make it her own. Fate grants Mary access to the secret garden and she begins transforming it into a thing of beauty-unaware that she, too, is changing.
This book while appealing to both young and old alike has wonderful elements of mystery, spirituality, charming characters and an authentic rendering of childhood emotions and experiences. It remains a popular story of a child’s journey into maturity, and a must-read for every child, parent, teacher and anyone who would enjoy this fascinating glimpse of childhood.
