The books in this series tell the story of ten children, all five years old, who are culturally diverse, and wonderfully bonded in friendship. They are found on a mysterious island, shaped like the palm of your left hand. In each book the children explore a different part of the island, which represents a different part of the world, with its unique wildlife. However, throughout the adventure they run into some fantasy and mythical creatures — some good and some not so good.
In this book, The Great Gulf Adventure, you are introduced to animals found in Mexico. Some very unique animals are found in Mexico. There are fun songs, laughs and some clues given that may indicate some danger ahead. There are footnotes that give more insight into actual height, speed or behaviour of the animals but they may take away from the flow of the story. Let the little one take the lead in questions. Footnotes are there as a helpful guide. For some fake suspense, we are introduced to a monster that ends up not being a monster at all. But then the real monster shows up.
