Isabelle L. D. Grant (1896-1977) grew up in Scotland and immigrated to the United States in 1924. She taught thirty-two years in the Los Angeles public schools, continuing to teach after she lost her sight in 1948. Following retirement, she traveled extensively. Grant was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1972. Deborah Kent is the author of numerous fiction and nonfiction titles for children and teens. She lives in Chicago and is an active member of the National Federation of the Blind.
