In L.Frank Baum’s “Tik-Tok of Oz”, (1914), Ann Soforth, a rival queen from the land of Oogaboo, raises an army to conquer Oz. Newcomers Betsy Bobbin and her loyal mule Hank team up with the Shaggy Man, Ozga (Ozma’s cousin who is a rose), Polychrome, the rainbow’s daughter, and Tik-Tok to thwart Queen Ann and her army of seventeen men. The eighth in the Oz books series, it was adapted from a stage version of Ozma of Oz, which included music by Baum’s favorite composer Louis Gottschalk.
