عن المؤلف

Louisa May Alcott (1832–1888) was an American novelist, born in Germantown, Pennsylvania. She is best known for her novel ‘Little Women’ and its sequels ‘Little Men’ and ‘Jo’s Boys’. Alcott grew up in New England, and her family’s involvement with the transcendentalist movement heavily influenced her writing and beliefs. Before gaining fame as a writer, she worked as a teacher, seamstress, and Civil War nurse. Alcott’s writing career encompassed both children’s books and pulp fiction, yet she preferred the latter as it paid better, though she wrote such works under pseudonyms. ‘Jack & Jill: A Village Story’ (1880) echoes Alcott’s interest in rendering domestic narratives with moral lessons for young readers. Although less well-known than her March family saga, the book is cherished for its exploration of friendship, responsibility, and the consequences of risky behavior, emblematic of Alcott’s literary style. Alcott was a pioneer in the representation of strong, self-sufficient female characters, showing an early feminist mindset that helped shape American literature in the post-Civil War era. Her works, marked by their realism and moral undercurrent, continue to be read and loved more than a century after her death, testifying to the enduring appeal of her literary legacy.
