Joseph Moshev, a seventeen-year-old Russian Jewish immigrant, comes to America alone in 1903, looking for streets paved with gold. Instead, he finds a hard life awaits him as he fights to survive and fulfill his ambition of being a somebody.

Mark Carp is the author of Naomi’s “American” Family, his sixth book and fifth novel. He lives in Baltimore, Maryland, and holds a BS degree from the University of Maryland and an MS degree from the Johns Hopkins University. His other novels are Segalvitz, Abraham: The Last Jew, The Extraordinary Times of Ordinary People, and The End of Hell. He has also written Cain, Abel and the Family Cohen, a fictional memoir.
