About the author

Bruce Scharschmidt is a physician scientist who lives in San Francisco and enjoys telling stories to his grandchildren.The giant Pacific octopus lives along the coastal regions of N. America and Asia. Adults weigh ~15 kg and have a radial span of 6 m. Females lay and continuously care for up to 400, 000 eggs, which hatch in about 6 months. Hatchlings are about the size of a grain of rice. Only a few of the hatchlings survive to adulthood as most are eaten by predators.
