Carl Linnaeus (1707 – 1778), also known as Carl von Linné, was one of the prominent biologists in the history of science. He was most famous for creating the binomial nomenclature, the system of naming organisms that is still used today. Born in Sweden, he received his formal education at Uppsala University, where he later lectured as a professor of medicine. He was a member and a leader of numerous exhibitions in Sweden and abroad. At the time of his death, he was one of the most acclaimed scientists in Europe.
