Charles Austin Beard (1874–1948) was an influential American historian and political scientist, renowned for his reinterpretation of the American past with an emphasis on economic factors. Beard attended De Pauw University, subsequently studying at Oxford University and finally the Columbia University for his Ph D. Beard is perhaps best remembered for his groundbreaking work ‘An Economic Interpretation of the Constitution of the United States’ (1913), where he argued that the U.S. Constitution was molded by economic interests.
