Charles Major (1856-1913) was an American novelist and lawyer.  His novels, mostly historical romances, were immensely popular, generating stage adaptations and, later, movie treatments.  His most famous novels are When Knighthood Was in Flower  (1898) and Dorothy Vernon of Haddon Hall (1902).
