Humanity has perhaps one overriding value, one aim that it sets above all others. To be civilised.People everyone declare it to be the way forward, if we are all civilised, then all are equal, all is just. Lofty words but somehow human nature, greed and self-interest keep us all far from our goal.In this volume we look at our history with different eyes. Firstly, in a world where, gender, colour, race and orientation are still stumbling blocks to inclusion much of the world has moved measurably forward in recent decades. Not enough but some progress has been made. Half the world’s population are female. Many of them are trodden down by misogyny, religious mis-quotes, failing systems of education and welfare and all manner of other ills that shame us all. We are all born from women, usually raised by women, is this really the thanks, the gratitude and esteem we can pay tribute to their lives. Through the poems and verses within we look at the world and we listen to our poetess’s on how their work has changed literature and perhaps society and maybe its influence has touched us all, made us less sure of the abstract and more committed to a common goal. These Sixty women really have changed the word, moved the needle on their world. We are the ears of their verse and our actions can be another step to a brighter future.
