The Crucial Issues of Biblical Authority

Support

Can society function without a common standard of weights and measures, currency, and time-keeping? Is competition in athletics possible without rules? But what about religion? Is it left up to each person what to believe and practice, or is there a universal standard? There is. God sent Jesus, not only to die as our Savior, but also to reveal an authoritative message for our salvation. Jesus then transferred this message to the apostles. Guided by the Holy Spirit, they in turn preached this message, which is now preserved in the New Testament. This is our standard today.

About the author

David Gibson received his Bachelor’s degree in English from Harding College (now University) in 1969. Shortly after graduation, he and Sara Keesee were married, then moved to Scranton, Pennsylvania, to work with a small congregation. After nearly seven years there, they relocated to David’s hometown where he began his graduate studies. In 1980 he received his Master of Divinity from Abilene Christian University. He and his family then moved to Commerce, Texas, where he spent the next thirty years preaching for a congregation. During this tenure he made three mission trips to India and taught college-credit classes in Bible as an adjunct instructor with Texas A&M University-Commerce. He has had a number of articles published in the daily devotional guide Power for Today and Gospel Advocate magazine. In 2010 he retired from the pulpit but remains active with the same congregation, involved in teaching, visitation, and serving as an elder. He and Sara have been blessed with four grown children and eight grandchildren.
