Isaak August Dorner (1809-1884) was educated at the University of Tubingen where he studied under F.C. Baur. His academic career led him to posts at Keil, Konigsberg, Bonn, Gottingen, and Berlin. Dorner established his reputation with the publication of „History of the Development of the Doctrine of the Person of Christ“, an indirect response to Strauss. One of the most noteworthy of the „mediating“ theologians, he has been ranked with Friedrich Schleiermacher, August Neander, Karl Nitzsch, Julius Mueller, and Richard Rothe.
