Prof Dame Averil Cameron DBE, FBA, FSA, is a Research Fellow at Keble College, Oxford, a member of the Faculty of Classics and Chair of the Oxford Centre for Byzantine Research. She was Warden of Keble College, 1994-2010, and before that Professor of Late Antique and Byzantine History at King’s College London, where she was also the first Director of the Centre for Hellenic Studies.
