The Archives of James Boswell, at Yale University, form one of the most important collections of 18th-century personal papers known to exist. The archives are published in two editions. The Research Edition, annotated for a scholarly readership, includes Boswell’s correspondence, complete private journals and notes, the Manuscript Edition of the Life of Johnson, and a three-volume analytical catalogue of the collection.
