James Clifford. Nació en 1945. Es un investigador interdisciplinar cuya obra combina perspectivas de la historia, la literatura y la antropología. Creció en Nueva York y fue durante 33 años profesor en el Departamento de Historia de la Conciencia de la Universidad de California-Santa Cruz, hasta su jubilación en el 2011. Su esfuerzo analítico se centra en las luchas por superar estereotipos, por reconocer historias divergentes y por afianzar las identidades „poscoloniales“ y „tribales“ en contextos de dominación y globalización. En Gedisa se ha publicado también su obra Dilemas de la cultura, uno de los libros fundamentales para la antropología en el último cuarto de siglo.
