He was an English novelist and dramatist renowned for his Gothic horror style, with his work ‚The Monk‘ being the most celebrated. ‚The Monk, ‚ published in 1796 when Lewis was only twenty years old, quickly gained notoriety for its shocking and controversial subject matter.
