Robert G Dean has won several awards, including the ASCE John G Moffatt-Frank E Nichol Harbor and Coastal Engineering Award, 1987, the Gold Medal Award of the Florida Shore and Beach Preservation Association, 1987, ASCE International Coastal Engineer Award, 1983, Outstanding Civilian Service Medal by the Department of the Army, 1981, the Jim Purpura Award of the Florida Shore and Beach Preservation Association, 1979, ASCE Award for Significant Contributions in Coastal Engineering and Wave Hydrodynamics, 1990, Bill Carlton Award of the Florida Shore and Beach Preservation Association, 1996, Morrough P O“Brien Award of the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association, 2001. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1980, one of the highest professional distinctions in the US. He has also consulted for approximately 100 firms and governmental agencies in the general area of coastal and ocean engineering. He is the co-author of the textbooks &lqduo;Water Wave Mechanics for Engineers and Scientists“ and „Coastal Processes with Engineering Applications“ and the author of over 100 technical publications.
