Torsten Tschacher studierte Indologie, Völkerkunde und Vergleichende Religionswissenschaft an der Universität zu Köln und promovierte in South Asian Studies an der National University of Singapore. Er ist Juniorprofessor am Institut für Islamwissenschaft der Freien Universität Berlin. Seine Forschungen beziehen sich auf muslimische Gesellschaften und die Vernakularisierung islamischer Diskurse in Südindien und Sri Lanka. Er übersetzt aus dem Tamilischen.
