About the author

Edward Augustus Freeman (1823-1892) was an English writer and historian.  He is best known for his monumental, meticulously researched History of the Norman Conquest (1867-1876).  While his professional standing remains high, his reputation today has been marred by his aggressive racism that was virulent even for its own time.
