About the author
Edward Dowden (1843–1913) was an Irish literary critic and poet. His first book, Shakespeare, His Mind and Art, published in 1875, established his reputation as a literary critic. An authority on Shakespeare, he went on to write a number of books about the playwright, as well as numerous other works of criticism and biography.
