A former university professor, she holds Ph Ds in Political Science and Peace Studies from the University of Notre Dame. Emily is a third-generation Finnish American whose grandmother gave her a copy of the Kalevala and told stories about their family in Finland while teaching her how to bake pulla bread. She was born in Florida, raised in Kentucky, and now lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, son, and cats.
