This book focuses on advances in economic research. Chapter 1 is aimed at the mainstream adoption of blockchain technology which has prompted central banks worldwide into exploring the possibility of implementing digital forms of their fiat currencies. Chapter 2 examines the agreements and commitments made in the RCEP with a view to identifying how to harness the largest plurilateral FTA in terms of small open economies, using Thailand as the case study. Chapter 3 revisits the debate triggered by several proposals to reform the EU’s fiscal governance framework and assess their potential impact on MS’ public finances, aiming at providing a critical analysis of how those proposals were reflected in the new legislation. Chapter 4’s objective is to model and forecast T&T’s import of vegetables and fruit, and to provide policy recommendations to address T&T’s reliance on imported fruits and vegetables. Chapter 5 presents the actions of companies carrying out their business activities in Bulgaria related to innovations, the strategies they apply for competitiveness, the communications carried out, the partner relations they maintain, the actions in harmony with the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework and innovations, which implement it. Chapter 6 aims to synthesize the current state of knowledge and subsequent research in cross-border mergers and acquisitions in Europe to provide unique economic and analytical tools, methods, and approaches through which we can orient ourselves with the arising developments and issues of M&As. Chapter 7 aims to establish the relationship between the indicator of the share of expenditures on alcoholic beverages in household final consumption expenditures and the value of HDI. Finally, Chapter 8 focuses on the financial crisis and the COVID19 crisis, comparing how each of these two unforeseen crises may have affected the happiness of people in different countries.
