The siblings must deal with their guardian—Daniel Voorhees Pike of Kokomo, Indiana—who refuses to liquidate the family fortune for the marriage. Written in Paris in 1906, this play ran in Chicago for a year and was a hit on Broadway in 1908.

Booth Tarkington (1869-1946) was an American novelist best known for his depictions of life in small Midwestern cities. A lover of the theater, he dramatized several of his own books. Today, he is most noted as the author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Magnificent Ambersons and for the novel Alice Adams, about the frustrated ambitions of a lower middle class young woman.
 
Harry Leon Wilson (1867-1939) was an American novelist and dramatist. He is the author of Ruggles of Red Gap (1915), and popularized the term “flapper” in his 1913 novel Bunker Bean.
