This book takes the existing Japanese editions of Su Shi and Huang Tingjian’s poetry collections, manuscripts, selections, pictorial materials, and the Chinese writings of the Zen monks of the Gozan as its research subjects. It aims to clarify the dissemination, reception, and transformation of these two poets’ poetic creations and poetic thoughts outside their homeland, revealing the dynamic process by which the influence of the Song Dynasty’s poetic paradigm shifted from the scholar-officials to the Song-Yuan Zen forests and subsequently influenced the poetry of the Japanese Gozan.
