Charles Marsh ist Professor für Theologie an der Universität von Virginia in Charlottesville/USA und Leiter des Projekts „Lived Theology“, das sich um einen fruchtbaren Austausch zwischen theologischem Denken und lebendiger religiöser Erfahrung bemüht. Er ist Autor zahlreicher Bücher. Sein Werk „Gottes langer Sommer: Geschichten vom Glauben und dem Kampf um Bürgerrechte“ wurde 1998 mit dem Grawemeyer Award in Religion ausgezeichnet. Über Charles Marsh‘ Buch „Reclaiming Bonhoeffer“ schrieb Eberhard Bethge: „Dieses Buch ist eine Sensation. Niemand, der Bonhoeffers Erbe für die Gegenwart bestimmen will, kann es ignorieren.“ 2009 erhielt Marsh ein Guggenheim Fellowship, 2012 war er Fellow an der American Academy in Berlin.
