Machado probes the history of this tension by examining the Disciples’ interaction with Hispanics in Texas around the turn of the 20th century. The Church’s inability to develop significant ties with Hispanics resulted in the creation of a small church that exists on both the geographical and denominational margins of the Christian Church.
