Social geographer Farida Azhar-Hewitt lived for months among Balti women in 1989, 1993, and on numerous return visits over two decades. Born in Lahore, Pakistan, and educated at Cambridge University, England, and Waterloo University, Ontario, she currently lives in Toronto.
