This 1904 war memoir draws on Palmer’s experience as a front-line correspondent during the Russo-Japanese War. It covers the first phase of the war, from its outset to August 1904. A contemporary review in the
Dial called the work ‘vividly written . . . as informing as it is interesting in its accounts of the actual fighting.’
