Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 – 1750) was a German musician and composer during the Baroque period. He based his work on existing German styles but often adopted and adapted textures, rhythms, and forms from other countries, especially from Italy and France. Although his music was celebrated for its technical mastery, artistic beauty, and intellectual profundity during his lifetime, it was not until the 19th century that he was considered a great composer.
