John Gimlette, geboren 1963, Londoner und von Beruf Jurist, ist seit seinem 17. Lebensjahr zugleich Weltreisender, Reisejournalist und Autor. Er war vor allem in Südamerika unterwegs und hat dort in mehreren Ländern gelebt. Seine Artikel und Fotografien sind in zahlreichen Magazinen und Zeitungen erschienen. Im Jahr 1997 wurde er mit dem »Shiva Naipaul Prize« für Reiseliteratur ausgezeichnet. »Wild Coast: Travels on South America's Untamed Edge« ist sein viertes Buch.
