Life Aboard a Sinking Ship tells the story of a small-town boy who received a draft notice from the Army at the height of the Korean War, and instead chose to join the United States Navy-hoping to see the world. Thus began 15 years of service in the Navy with more adventure than he imagined possible. This book details the first four years of his Navy career, aboard an ocean-going tugboat, traveling up and down the East Coast of the United States, as far north as Newfoundland, Canada, and south to Cuba and Puerto Rico. From the humorous to the dangerous, he chronicles his experiences through violent storms, hurricanes, and sinking ships, along with adventure, laughter, camaraderie, and falling in love. This memoir will keep everyone, young or old, engaged in the story.
