Mr. London is here writing about locations and individuals he is familiar with, such as the sea and ships, as well as those who live on ships. There is a thread of romance between a wealthy, exhausted young man who takes the journey on the Elsinore and the captain’s daughter, in addition to the adventure element, of which there is an abundance of the usual London sort, a most satisfying kind it is, too. The play of events, with the ship’s magnificent crew on one side and the lovers on the other, creates a story that never loses interest and proves Mr. London’s mastery of his craft once more.
