Rucha Ghate was awarded Ph. D in 1989 by the Nagpur University on her thesis entitled «Forest Policy and its Economic Impact on Tribals of Maharashtra». It was subsequently published in book form. Her interest in forests and indigenous people of Vidarbha led her to pursue the subject further after completing post-doctoral fellowship in Environmental Economics from Indiana University, Bloomington, USA. She has undertaken and completed many research projects pertaining to the subject. At present she is the Secretary of SHODH: The Institute for Research and Development, based in Nagpur and the Director of Collaborative Research Centre. IFRI. She has been a faculty member in the Post graduate Teaching Department of the Nagpur University for the past 17 years, and has taught at Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand, as a visiting faculty, where she was awarded «Teaching Award 2003». She is a consultant to the World Bank and other international agencies for various projects. Besides a book, she has many research papers and articles to her credit.
