Thomas Hughes (1822–1896) was an English lawyer and author whose most famous book, Tom Brown’s School Days, has become a classic work of young adult literature (Hughes based the character of Tom on his brother George). Hughes also wrote a number of other works, including biographies of David Livingstone and Alfred the Great.
