A. G. MACDONELL  (Poona, 1895-Oxford, 1941) nació en la India, en el seno de una familia de origen escocés. Muy pronto se trasladó a Inglaterra, donde completó sus estudios y se incorporó a la Royal Field Artillery como teniente durante la Primera Guerra Mundial. Trabajó como periodista para diversos medios y comenzó su carrera como escritor de novelas detectivescas, firmadas con distintos seudónimos. Fuera del género, destaca especialmente Inglaterra, su Inglaterra (1933), delicioso clásico de la literatura humorística británica.
