The book introduces the concept of a ‘monkey mind, ‘ drawing from Eastern philosophies to explain the unsettled, chaotic thoughts that jump rapidly from one subject to another. By using simple mindfulness-based strategies like pausing, slowing down, and taking deep breaths, Bai is able to gain clarity and focus his mind. The narrative also provides an opportunity for adults to openly discuss mental health with children, normalizing anxiety and teaching them how to regulate their emotions.
Monkey Mind was created and written as a conduit to help children understand and address their anxiety. The goal is twofold: to inspire parents to discuss anxiety with their kids, and to normalize and break the stigma of anxiety for children.
