Prof. Amitava Mukherjee had a distinguished academic career, educated at Ranchi University, Ranchi, India, William Marsh Rice University, Houston, University of South Florida, Tampa. Department of Economics and the Graduate School of Business, Stanford University, Stanford, USA; the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, London, and the London School of Economics and Political Science, London. Dr. Mukherjee held the Chair in Economics and Planning, and co-ordinated the Faculty in the Centre for Micro-Planning & Regional Studies at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie; was Advisor and Project Head of the Planning Commission Project on decentralized planning. He has been a consultant to various international and UN agencies including FAO, Rome; UNDP and UNESCAP. He is currently the Chief Technical Advisor, Pro-Poor Public Private Partnership, United Nations » Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Bangkok. He is a life member of the Indian Econometric Society, the Regional Science Association of India, the Indian Economic Association, and of the Royal Economic Society, England. Dr. Mukherjee has numerous papers and over thirty books to his credit. His contribution to decentralized planning and participatory development is internationally recognized.
