A propos de l’auteur

Sir Arthur Thomas Quiller-Couch, born on November 21, 1863, was an influential Cornish writer, poet, and literary critic, best known under his pseudonym ‘Q.’ Educated at Clifton College and Trinity College, Oxford, Quiller-Couch made significant contributions to English literature, not least through his anthology ‘The Oxford Book of English Verse’ (1900), which became a staple in the literary canon. His works often reflect a deep connection with Cornwall, as is evident in ‘The Ship of Stars’ (1899), where the rugged beauty of the Cornish landscape forms a vibrant backdrop for a tale of romance and moral reflection. Quiller-Couch’s narrative style is characterized by a keen sense of place and an ability to infuse his prose with a poetic sensibility, drawing readers into the world he crafts. A pivotal figure in the Cambridge literary scene, he held the King Edward VII Professorship of English Literature at Cambridge University from 1912 until his death in 1944. His lectures have been commemorated in the influential collection ‘On the Art of Writing’ (1916). With a literary style that embraced both the romanticism of the 19th century and the changing tides of the 20th, Quiller-Couch’s legacy continues to inspire readers and writers alike.
