Returning home to a post-apocalyptic Colorado after years spent hunting down the people responsible for his father’s death, Jack Brooks finds his sister in the last stages of a horrible plague. Shortly before her death, she reveals that she had a premonition that Jack’s destiny lies far to the north, where he will find something of great value that he must protect with his life. She possesses a potentially dangerous power, and Jack is torn by the feelings he’s developing for her and the fear of what she might be capable of.
