Eugene Cunningham (1896-1957) is considered a top-ranking Western novelist. Born in Arkansas, he moved to Texas in 1898. Following service in both World War I and II, he began his writing career as a magazine correspondent. His first Western novel, The Trail to Apacaz, was published in 1924. His most successful book, Triggernometry (1934), a non-fiction study of famous gunfighters, was named one of the 36 best non-fiction Western books of all time by the Western Writers of America. Cunningham died in San Francisco in 1957 at the age of 60.
