Collected Works of Dostoevsky: Demons is a full-length novel written by Dostoevsky, a great Russian writer in the 19th century. Taking the murder of Russian anarchist, Nechayev, in 1871 as the theme, the work denigrates and attacks the progressive youth and the revolutionary movements at that time, and exposes and criticizes the upper bureaucrats and the aristocratic bourgeoisie in Russia. Pyotr Stepanovich, with Nechayev as the model prototype, was a brazen and conscientious conspirator and political swindler rising to power and position by virtue of revolution. He manipulated the secret organization "Five-Person Group" to instigate group members to disrupt the donation campaign run by the governor’s wife. He also forced group members to assassinate the university student Shatov by means of malicious incitement, deception and intimidation on the pretext that Shatov had the suspicion of telling the truth. Later, he induced Kirillov to write down the suicide note taking responsibility for the crimes and shoot himself, and slipped away. In addition, the author describes another "demon", Nikolai Stavrogin, a wicked childe who had no moral code, was dissipated and unashamed and specialized in playing with women’s feelings, as well as the elder generation and raiser of the two "demons"-a vilified representative of liberal occidentalist.
